PESHAWAR – The fruits of Governor Rule and Emergency have started showing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as departmental action against corruption has begun in the province.
In a major development, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Housing Authority has terminated all bogus work-charge employees, commonly known as ghost employees.
According to sources, complaints were continuously being received that more than Rs. 1 crore per month was being released in the name of fake work-charge employees in the KP Housing Authority as salaries.
However, allegedly, neither the Administration nor the Finance section of the Authority had any authentic documentary record regarding the recruitment, appointment letters, and approval from the competent authority for these employees, nor were both sections in a position to give any authentic and satisfactory answer in this regard.
Taking immediate notice of the situation, Advisor to the Advisory Council for Housing Asif Rafiq Afridi and newly appointed Secretary Housing Tahir Orakzai took immediate action and ordered termination of all work-charge employees.
Sources in the Housing Department said that an inquiry has been ordered to investigate how these ghost employees were appointed, who withdrew their salaries, and who was behind this scam.
The record of salary disbursement for the last several years is being scrutinized. Officials said that this action will save more than Rs. 12 crore annually for the provincial exchequer, and it is the beginning of a major clean-up operation in other departments as well.
