ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, has expressed concern over Afghan citizens’ involvement in terror attacks being carried out in Pakistan from Afghan soil.
Prime Minister made this statement during a high-level emergency meeting in Islamabad on Friday, following terror attacks carried out by the Afghan Taliban and Indian proxies Fitna al Khwarij. However, thwarted by Pakistan’s security forces.
The meeting was attended by Field Marshal Asim Munir, federal ministers and Chief Minister Sindh, Murad Ali Shah, Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz and Balochistan’s Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti and others.
A high-level meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, focusing on the return of Afghan refugees and the current security situation in Pakistan.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed concern about attacks on Pakistan originating from Afghan territory, as well as the involvement of Afghans in these incidents. He highlighted that Pakistan has sacrificed thousands of lives in the fight against terrorism and endured economic losses amounting to billions of dollars.
The Prime Minister emphasised that while Pakistan has consistently aided the people of Afghanistan, it is now imperative to facilitate the return of Afghans who are residing illegally in Pakistan. He remarked, “Our brave nation questions how long the government will bear the burden of Afghan refugees.”
The meeting also addressed recent incursions and provocations from Afghanistan. The Prime Minister noted that Pakistan has taken diplomatic and political measures to prevent the infiltration of hostile elements, but the continuation of attacks from Afghan soil remains a serious concern.
He clarified that the brave forces of Pakistan have effectively responded to recent attacks, asserting that under the leadership of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, the Pakistani military has successfully repelled the enemy. He stated, “Our army knows how to defend the country with its professional capabilities.”
The Prime Minister directed relevant agencies to take immediate steps to ensure the return of illegal Afghan residents.
