ISLAMABAD: The Power Division has announced measures aimed at providing relief to electricity consumers by limiting the expected fuel price adjustment (FPA) for September to Rs2.56 per unit, down from a potential Rs6 per unit.
According to a statement issued by the Power Division, the measures are expected to protect consumers from an additional financial burden of Rs3.44 per unit.
The statement said targeted load management was carried out during September, involving limited power cuts of two to two-and-a-half hours, to reduce the impact of expensive alternative fuels on electricity generation costs.
The Power Division said the September fuel price adjustment could have reached Rs6 per unit without these measures. However, efforts to manage electricity generation costs helped limit the expected adjustment to Rs2.56 per unit.
The division added that it had also attempted to contain the additional financial burden on consumers by reducing the impact of imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices.
Gas Shortages May Pose Challenges During Winter
The Power Division has also issued a warning that the availability of gas would become scarce during winters as the demand for domestic gas rises.
As per the press statement, the power industry would need to utilize regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) to ensure stability within the electricity sector.
The anticipated drop in the fuel price adjustment in September would offer some respite to consumers, depending on how the adjustment is implemented.
It is suggested that consumers must stay tuned to official announcements in order to get confirmation about the fuel price adjustment.
