PESHAWAR: Following Governor’s rule, the federal government on Sunday transferred Muhammad Yahya Akhunzada, a Grade-20 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS), to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

According to an official notification, his services have been placed at the disposal of the KP government under Section 10 of the Civil Servants Act, 1973. Akhunzada was previously serving as additional secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office.
According to the notification, his assignment will remain effective until further orders.

Akhunzada belongs to Charsadda district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and has previously served in several administrative positions in the province and former tribal districts. His past assignments include additional political agent for South Waziristan and North Waziristan, secretary of health, information and education in KP, and commissioner of Dera Ismail Khan.
The notification did not provide further details about his specific responsibilities under the new assignment.
Earlier, the federal government reportedly withdrawn the services of 15 Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS) officers posted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and directed them to report to the Establishment Division immediately, marking a significant development in the province’s administrative structure.

According to the information received, the officers belong to Grades 18, 19, 20 and 21 and include several senior bureaucrats serving in the province. The decision comes amid reports of administrative changes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with the provincial bureaucracy facing a potential reshuffle.

The officers reportedly affected by the decision include Grade 21 officers Shahab Ali Shah, Ikramullah and Ambar Ali Khan, while Grade 20 officers Shahidullah and Sohail Khan are also among those listed. The list further includes Grade 19 officers Shah Fahad, Captain (Retired) Mian Adil Iqbal, Muhammad Usman, Captain (Retired) Sarmad Saleem Akram and Shafiullah.
Grade 18 officers named in the reported directive are Captain (Retired) Zubair Niazi, Captain (Retired) Sanaullah Khan, Ehtesham-ul-Haq and Muhammad Faheem.

The officers have reportedly been instructed to report to the federal Establishment Division without delay. However, details regarding their subsequent postings and the reasons behind the withdrawal of their services remain unclear. The reported move could have implications for the administrative arrangements in the province, particularly as attention remains focused on senior-level appointments and the distribution of responsibilities among federal and provincial officers.

The Establishment Division is responsible for key matters concerning the federal civil service, including postings, transfers and administrative assignments. The next steps regarding the officers’ placements are expected to become clearer following official orders.
