PESHAWAR: The federal government has proposed 11-member advisory cabinet, which will act as administrative setup under the emergency rule in KP.
According to sources, the government also proposed a Development Council which would comprise 40 to 50 members and cover 12 districts, including eight merged tribal districts as well as Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Tank and Dera Ismail Khan.
The main objective of the council would be to speed up development projects in areas affected by unrest and improve the pace of development activities. Sources said an additional chief secretary and an additional inspector general of police would also be appointed for these districts. Senior government officers would be answerable to the federal government under the proposed arrangement.
Under the proposed structure, emergency-related powers would be assigned to the governor, who would form an 11-member advisory cabinet. The cabinet would include 10 technocrats, while Samar Haroon Bilour would be the only politician in the proposed setup, according to sources.
Restoring law and order would be the government’s top priority under the proposed arrangement. Sources also said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly would be suspended and the powers of its staff would be suspended as well.
The proposed setup is intended to improve security in unrest-hit areas and accelerate development projects. However, its final shape and implementation remain subject to an official announcement.
