ISLAMABAD: A high-level meeting to review the prevailing situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has begun at the President’s House, with senior government officials and political leaders discussing possible future measures amid escalating political tensions.
President Asif Ali Zardari is chairing the meeting, which is being attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leaders Sherry Rehman and Naveed Qamar.
According to the information available, the meeting is focusing on the current situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and deliberations are underway on possible future steps and important decisions.
Emergency or Governor’s Rule Under Consideration
The meeting comes amid growing tensions between the federal government and the PTI-led provincial administration over security policy, law and order and political developments in the province.
The possibility of imposing an emergency or governor’s rule has emerged as a key issue in the wider political debate surrounding Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
