SHANGLA: A tragic mining accident has occurred in the Sandia area of Chakesar tehsil in Shangla district, where a laborer got trapped inside a white clay (China clay) mine following a rockfall.
According to preliminary reports, the incident took place when laborers were working deep inside the mine. Suddenly, a heavy boulder collapsed and fell on one of the miners, trapping him under the debris. Other workers present at the site managed to escape safely and immediately informed the local authorities.
Soon after receiving information about the accident, local administration, police, and rescue teams rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation to retrieve the trapped laborer. Local volunteers and fellow miners are also assisting in the operation.
Sources said that the rescue work is facing difficulties due to the narrow passage and unstable condition inside the mine, but efforts are being made on an emergency basis to save the trapped worker
Further details about the condition of the trapped laborer and the cause of the accident are yet to be ascertained. Officials said that an investigation will be launched into the incident to determine whether safety measures were being followed at the mine site.
China clay mines in Shangla are known to be a major source of livelihood for local people, but such accidents are often reported due to lack of proper safety arrangements and outdated mining methods.
