PESHAWAR: Rain, thunderstorms and strong winds are expected in several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from Monday evening or night through October 7, prompting the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to direct district administrations to take precautionary measures.
According to the PDMA, thunderstorms and rain are also expected in upper districts including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra and Abbottabad.
The authority said daytime temperatures could drop by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius due to the rainfall.
The PDMA has directed district administrations to continuously monitor rivers, streams and seasonal waterways and ensure the availability of rescue personnel and necessary equipment to deal with any emergency.
Relevant departments have also been instructed to keep drainage systems clean and operational to prevent water accumulation in urban areas during rainfall.
The PDMA advised tourists to avoid unnecessary travel during the wet weather and exercise extra caution. The public has also been urged to seek shelter in safe places during thunderstorms, stay away from power lines and other hazardous objects, and avoid entering or crossing floodwater.
According to the authority, the Provincial Emergency Operations Centre is operating round the clock and continuously monitoring the situation.
The PDMA spokesperson said people could contact the authority’s helpline at 1700 in case of an emergency.
