ISLAMABAD: Sahibzada Farhan is likely to be retained as captain for the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka.

According to sources, the batter who led the Pakistani team in the Asian Games is expected to continue leading the side for the Sri Lanka series. Sources further said that Ahmed Daniyal, Saad Masood, Haider Ali and Wasim Junior are likely to be dropped from the squad for the series.

Meanwhile, senior players including Babar Azam, Shadab Khan, Naseem Shah and Fakhar Zaman are expected to make a comeback to the team. It is pertinent to mention that Pakistan and Sri Lanka will play three T20I matches on October 9, 11 and 13 in Rawalpindi.

Sahibzada Farhan was handed the captaincy for the Pakistan team that participated in the Asian Games recently, where a second-string squad was sent due to unavailability of senior players and scheduling conflicts. Despite a mixed campaign, Farhan’s leadership and aggressive batting at the top was praised by the management.

With the main players rested after a long season, the selectors had experimented with youngsters including Ahmed Daniyal, Saad Masood, Haider Ali and Mohammad Wasim Jr. However, sources say all four are likely to be dropped for the Sri Lanka home series.
