LAHORE: Pakistan women’s team fast bowler Kainat Imtiaz has announced her retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to her playing career with the national side.
According to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Imtiaz represented Pakistan in 19 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 21 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).
She was also part of Pakistan’s women’s cricket team that won gold medals at the 2010 and 2014 Asian Games.
Imtiaz played her last ODI against Australia in January 2023, while her final T20I came against Thailand in October 2022.
After stepping away from international cricket, Imtiaz remained associated with the sport through commentary. She has now embarked on a new chapter in her career as a women’s match referee.
Cricket also runs in Imtiaz’s family. Her mother, Saleema Imtiaz, is an umpire and became the first Pakistani woman to be included in the ICC International Development Panel.
Saleema Imtiaz has officiated in nine Women’s ODIs and 69 Women’s T20Is.
With her retirement, Kainat Imtiaz will continue serving women’s cricket in a new capacity as a match referee.
