KHYBER: A protest demonstration is underway in front of Jamrud Tehsil by the elders of the Koki khail tribe and the relatives of two persons who died in police custody yesterday. The protesters have blocked the Pak-Afghan Highway for all kinds of traffic, placing the bodies of the deceased on the road.
The protesters and the bereaved families claim that their children were not involved in the murder of SHO Malagori Riaz Hussain and were killed extrajudicially without any investigation or inquiry. The families have demanded an independent investigation into the incident and demanded immediate suspension of CCPO Peshawar and DPO Khyber.
The families demanded that an FIR be registered against those allegedly involved in the murder of their children, while the FIR registered against the affected family should also be withdrawn.
It should be noted that yesterday, during an operation related to non-custom-paid vehicles in the Malagori tehsil area, SHO Malagori Riaz Hussain was injured in an exchange of firing, who later succumbed to his injuries and was martyred. Police had arrested two persons from the spot.
According to police, both arrested persons were being taken for identification of the crime scene when on the way their accomplices tried to free them from police custody and killed them by firing.
Following the incident, protests by the families of the deceased are continuing, while all kinds of traffic remains suspended due to the closure of the Pak-Afghan Highway.
