LAHORE: Nauman Ali, a spinner from Pakistan, has achieved the unbelievable by breaking a record that has stood for 37 years during the first Test match between Pakistan and South Africa being held in Lahore.
In the first innings, Pakistan piled up a score of 378 runs and South Africa was only able to output reply 269 runs.
The record was broken by Nauman Ali on the third day of the Test match. The record was held before him by Iqbal Qasim, another Pakistani spinner who was also the one to set it. During the match held at the Qaddafi Stadium, Nauman claimed six wickets in the first innings of South Africa, which was the ninth occasion in his Test career that he had claimed five or more wickets in an innings.
At 39 years old, Nauman Ali has outdone Iqbal Qasim and cemented his status as the Pakistani left-handed spinner with the most five-wicket innings in Test matches cutting the time span of his career down to one year (Iqbal Qasim’s life span and Nauman’s career time).
Qasim who played his last Test match in 1988 had taken five wickets in an innings a total of eight times during his glorious career.
Pakistan has so far given South Africa a target of 277 runs in the second innings after scoring 167 runs before being all out.
