Snapchat has introduced a new artificial intelligence-powered feature that allows users to turn messages from their conversations into short, original songs.
Called Chat to Song, the feature uses AI to transform a selected message into a song based on a music genre chosen by the user.
According to Snapchat, users can press and hold a message during a conversation, select the option to create a song and then choose their preferred musical genre. The AI will generate a short song based on the selected message, which users can then share with their friends.
The feature comes as turning messages and conversations into songs using AI has gained popularity on social media. A similar trend emerged on TikTok earlier this year, with users converting their messages into AI-generated songs.
However, some details about Snapchat’s new feature remain unclear. The company has not disclosed whether the songs are generated using its own AI system or technology provided by another company.
It has also not specified what music was used to train the AI system or whether licences were obtained for any copyrighted music used in the training process.
Snapchat said AI-generated songs will be clearly labelled as AI Song when shared with friends, allowing recipients to know that the content was created with the help of artificial intelligence.
The feature is currently available only to Lens+ subscribers.
