The federal government and representatives of trader organisations have agreed on a joint initiative under the simplified tax scheme to register shopkeepers at markets across the country.
Under the plan, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) officials and trader representatives will jointly visit markets in all four provinces to facilitate the registration of shopkeepers. A coordinated strategy will also be developed to make the registration process easier for traders.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the decision was taken at a meeting to review the simplified tax scheme, chaired by Minister of State for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani.
Trader representatives Ajmal Baloch and Kashif Chaudhry, Member Inland Revenue Operations Zubair Bilal, senior FBR officials, chief commissioners and officials from the Regional Tax Offices (RTOs) in Islamabad and Rawalpindi attended the meeting. Officials from RTOs and Corporate Tax Offices (CTOs) across the country also participated via video link.
The meeting reviewed the performance of RTOs and CTOs so far and assessed progress on the implementation of the simplified tax scheme.
It was decided that trader representatives and FBR officials would develop a joint strategy to facilitate registration in markets within their respective areas.
Under the plan, officials from FBR’s Regional Tax and Corporate Tax Offices will visit markets across the country alongside trader representatives in the coming days, according to pre-agreed schedules.
