ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has outlined the procedure for cancelling the CNIC of a deceased person without any fee.
In a message issued by the authority, NADRA advised citizens to have the CNICs of deceased family members cancelled promptly and free of charge.
According to NADRA, an application for cancellation can be submitted by the deceased person’s father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister or spouse, provided the applicant is listed in NADRA’s family record.
Applicants are required to provide the CRMS number of the computerised death certificate issued by the Union Council, Municipal Committee or Cantonment Board. In cases where the death occurred abroad, a foreign death certificate must be submitted.
The deceased person’s original CNIC or CNIC number must also be provided along with the application.
NADRA said the CNIC would be cancelled within two days of submission of the application.
