HARNAI: Four miners were killed and five others seriously injured after a gas explosion at a Pakistan Mineral Development Corporation (PMDC) coal mine in Shahrag, Harnai, on Sunday.
According to rescue sources, the explosion occurred after poisonous gas accumulated inside Mine No. 151. All nine miners trapped in the mine were safely brought out following a rescue operation.
Frontier Corps personnel and the civil administration launched relief and rescue efforts immediately after receiving information about the incident. FC personnel also provided security cover during the operation.
The bodies of the four deceased miners were handed over to their families after completion of the necessary procedures, while the five injured miners were provided initial medical treatment before being shifted to Quetta in critical condition.
Police sources said all the deceased and injured miners belonged to Swat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The rescue operation has been completed, while authorities are collecting further information to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
