PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Department of Transport has terminated 38 employees from the Transport Facilitation Project that has been running in the tribal districts for the past four years.
According to sources, the Transport Facilitation Project was launched in 2022 by the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to make the Department of Transport’s services more effective and people-friendly in the newly merged districts of the former FATA.
Employees for the project were hired through ETEA in 2022, and now termination letters have been issued to dismiss them. The employees say they have served in difficult areas for over four years and are now facing severe uncertainty about their future.
Many of them are either close to or have already crossed the age limit for government jobs, making it extremely difficult for them to get re-employed in the public sector. They further stated that if these experienced employees are laid off and new people are hired for the same positions, it will not only cause major financial loss to the employees but will also deprive the government of already trained and experienced manpower.
In this regard, the employees have also written a letter to the Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Transport, Samiullah Khan, demanding that their termination be withdrawn.
Alternatively, they have requested that the 38 employees be adjusted against suitable posts from the 104 vacant positions currently available in the Transport Department, in accordance with rules and regulations.
