US forces attacked an Iranian oil tanker near Kharg Island, with multiple explosions reported in the surrounding area.
Iran’s state news agency, Fars, did not immediately provide details regarding the exact nature of the attack or any potential casualties and damage. US officials have also not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
Kharg Island serves as one of Iran’s primary oil export terminals and a key hub for crude oil shipments. The area has recently been subject to US military strikes targeting air defense systems, radar installations, and maritime assets along Iran’s southern border.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that Iran’s oil export lifeline is being severed, noting that crude oil has accumulated on stranded vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. Bessent added that no Iranian oil shipments have passed through the Strait of Hormuz to China since the reinstatement of the blockade.
Meanwhile, Iran indicated that it may initiate preemptive operations whenever it perceives a threat, signaling potential further military actions.
