PESHAWAR: More than 50 political parties registered with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) have failed to submit their mandatory annual financial accounts and statements despite the passing of the deadline, with several major political entities among the defaulters.
According to ECP records, out of a total of 162 registered political parties, only 95 have managed to submit their annual statements. The electoral body had directed the heads of all political parties to submit their accounts and statements for the fiscal year ending in June 2026 by August 29, 2026.
Under Section 210 of the Elections Act, 2017, every political party is legally required to submit its financial statements on Form ‘D’ certified by a chartered accountant—to the Commission within 60 days of the close of the financial year. These statements must detail the party’s annual income and expenditures, funding sources, assets, and liabilities.
An ECP spokesperson and Director-General confirmed that only 95 parties complied with the directive within the stipulated timeframe, while the Commission is reviewing potential regulatory actions regarding the non-compliant parties. Under Section 210 of the Elections Act, 2017, every political party registered with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is legally mandated to submit its annual financial statements within 60 days of the close of each financial year.
These filings must be presented on Form-D and audited by a Chartered Accountant accredited by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP).
