ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has revealed that 16 of its officers hold foreign citizenship or green cards.
According to official documents, the 16 officers include 10 from the Inland Revenue Service and 6 from the Pakistan Customs Service. Among them, 10 officers in Grade 20 are found to possess dual nationality and green cards.
The documents further state that 5 officers in Grade 19 at the FBR also hold dual citizenship. The records show that all government officers are bound to declare foreign citizenship or permanent residency.
Officers were directed to submit details of their dual nationality by July 8. However, despite the deadline passing, several officers failed to submit their declarations.
According to the documents, providing incorrect information or failing to submit the declaration is considered misconduct.
It is mandatory to disclose details of foreign citizenship, green cards, or permanent residency. The disclosure comes at a time when the FBR has collected Rs 1,722 billion in taxes over the last two months.
Government rules require civil servants in sensitive positions, especially in revenue and customs, to declare foreign assets and nationalities due to conflict of interest concerns.
No official comment has yet been issued by FBR on what action will be taken against the officers who did not submit declarations.
