ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Secretary General Salman Akram Raja has ruled out the possibility of a conducive environment for talks with the government.
Speaking on Geo News’ program Capital Talk, Salman Akram Raja said the current atmosphere does not appear favorable for negotiations with the government. He stated that the government is not implementing court orders regarding PTI founder Imran Khan. “This sends a message from the government to PTI that talks will only be held on the government’s terms,” he said. “In such a situation, what kind of negotiations can take place?”
The remarks by PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja come amid months of standoff between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and the federal government over negotiations.
PTI has repeatedly accused the government of not implementing court orders related to party founder Imran Khan, who has been in jail since 2023 in multiple cases.
PTI says this shows the government is not serious about political reconciliation. Previous Talks Earlier in 2024 and 2025, there were a few rounds of backchannel and formal talks between PTI and government representatives.
However, those efforts failed over disagreements on the release of political prisoners, election issues, and the legal cases against PTI leadership. PTI maintains that any dialogue must be on “equal terms” and not dictated by the government. The party has demanded the rule of law, release of workers, and respect for judicial decisions as preconditions.
The government has said it is open to talks but insists they should be for “political stability and national interest” and within the framework of the Constitution and law.
