NEW DELHI: India has been confirmed as the host of the inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy, with the six-team tournament scheduled to take place from February 14 to 28, 2027.
The competition will be held at two venues, the Cricket Club of India in Mumbai and the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium in Vadodara.
The tournament was originally awarded to Sri Lanka but has now been shifted to India as Sri Lanka Cricket continues to implement reforms identified at the ICC Annual Conference in July.
The International Cricket Council evaluated India, Bangladesh and South Africa as potential replacement hosts before selecting India under its established host-assessment criteria. The decision was formally approved by the ICC Board on September 1.
Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka will feature in the six-team competition, all competing for the chance to become the first winners of the women’s Champions Trophy.
The tournament will use a round-robin format, with each team facing the others once. The two highest-ranked teams at the end of the league stage will qualify for the final on February 28.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah welcomed the launch of the new women’s tournament, describing it as a significant step forward for the sport.
He said the competition would bring the leading teams together while providing an additional incentive for sides to improve their rankings and compete at the highest level.
Shah also highlighted the ICC’s plans to stage a major women’s event every year, saying the approach could create greater continuity and momentum for players and supporters worldwide.
