LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has issued a show-cause notice to a member of the national selection committee, seeking an explanation over the selection of players for the Test squad.
The notice reportedly seeks clarification over the inclusion of Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq in the Test squad, as well as concerns regarding the selection of players for Pakistan’s tours of the West Indies and England.
The PCB has demanded a written explanation from the selection committee member about the selection and the basis for selection, including the recent performance of the selected players.
It has been demanded that the concerned person respond to the show-cause notice within 24 hours after receiving it.
It is further said that the matter should be dealt with on an urgent and high-priority basis.
The show-cause notice was sent by Chief Operating Officer Sami Ahmed Syed.
Misbah-ul-Haq resigns as PCB Chief Selector
Earlier, former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq has announced his resignation from the position of PCB chief selector, he will continue to serve as the head coach of the Pakistan men’s cricket team.
Misbah said that after reviewing the past 12 months and looking at the heavy workload for the next 24 months, he felt it was the right time to dedicate all his time, energy and attention to one role.
He described coaching as his passion and stated that his main goal is to contribute to player development and help the team achieve bigger successes. He took charge of both head coach and chief selector roles in September 2019.
Misbah admitted that handling both responsibilities together created tremendous pressure. He had earlier informed the PCB that managing both jobs would be challenging.
The PCB said Misbah will still select the squads for the upcoming home series against Zimbabwe and the away series against New Zealand.
A new chief selector will assume duties from December 1.PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan supported the decision, saying Pakistan has three major global events and 10 international commitments coming up, and Misbah believes he can deliver better results by focusing only on coaching.
Misbah also clarified that his decision was not linked to any meeting with the Prime Minister and was purely based on workload and team priorities. Under Misbah’s tenure, Pakistan played 19 matches across all formats, with 7 wins and 9 losses.
