MUZAFFARABAD: Barrister Iftikhar Gilani of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has been elected the new Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
The election for the leader of the house was held on Friday in the AJK Legislative Assembly, where Gilani secured 30 votes to win the post.
Gilani was challenged by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Mukhtar Ahmed Abbasi, who received 14 votes.
According to reports, PML-N lawmaker Shah Ghulam Qadir was absent from the assembly during the election and did not participate in the voting process.
Gilani’s election makes him the new head of the AJK government following the leadership contest in the legislative assembly.
