Israeli warplanes and artillery targeted multiple areas in South Lebanon, sharply escalating tensions in the region and raising concerns about the safety of civilians.
According to Iranian news agency IRNA, Lebanon’s TV channel Al-Manar reported that on midnight Israeli fighter jets bombed the town of Mansouri in South Lebanon. The area was also hit by Israeli artillery fire.
The report said the combination of airstrikes and artillery shelling has further worsened the security situation in South Lebanon. Details of casualties or property damage from the attacks have not yet been confirmed.
Israeli military operations in South Lebanon are continuing at a time when the area has already been facing prolonged tensions. Civilian deaths and injuries have been reported in previous attacks as well.
According to reports, Israel launched large-scale military operations against Lebanon starting March 2. During these operations, a large number of Lebanese civilians have been killed and injured, while more than 1 million people have been displaced from their homes.
The presence of Israeli forces in parts of South Lebanon also continues. Lebanon describes it as a major issue for its sovereignty and regional security.
Analysts monitoring the regional situation say any new military action in South Lebanon could spread the conflict further. They warn that the problems faced by civilians already affected by war and displacement may also increase.
Following the latest airstrikes and artillery bombardment, fears of further escalation and threats to civilian populations in the area have grown.
