Parents who lost their children gathered at PIMS and demanded accountability from the hospital administration and asked for immediate termination of the ward in-charge.
A grieving father said his three-day-old baby was killed in the fire and that no one could understand the pain he was going through. Another mother, Javeria, was seen being consoled after losing her newborn.
Parents called for the immediate termination of all relevant staff of the PIMS Nursery ward. They alleged that negligence in safety measures, lack of proper emergency arrangements, and administrative failure led to the loss of so many lives. They said that such incidents happen repeatedly due to mismanagement and that strict action should be taken so no other family has to suffer.
The Pakistan Medical Association also demanded action against officials whose failure to uphold safety codes resulted in the catastrophe. It called for strict consequences and immediate restructuring of health regulatory authorities responsible for enforcing safety protocols and emergency infrastructure in hospitals.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sadness over the incident and ordered an immediate investigation. He said those responsible should be identified and the strictest action should be taken. Senate Chairman Yusuf Raza Gilani also said that any negligence in safety measures is unacceptable and urged authorities to take practical steps to prevent such tragedies in the future. The PTI demanded the resignation of the health minister Mustafa Kamal, calling it a serious failure of the hospital’s safety and management system.
PIMS was cordoned off after the fire and ambulances were seen outside the building. The hospital administration has not issued a detailed statement on staff accountability.
Authorities have started an inquiry into the cause of the fire and the safety arrangements at the hospital. Parents said they have lost trust in the system and want justice for their children. They demanded that those responsible be removed from service and that PIMS be made safer for patients.
