PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government is releasing 2,000 metric tonnes of wheat on a daily basis to control flour prices across the province, with Peshawar receiving a share of 218 metric tonnes, officials said.
According to Peshawar Rationing Controller Aftab Umar, the wheat allocated to the provincial capital is used to produce around 2,180 bags of flour, which are then converted into approximately 7,630 bags weighing 20 kilograms each for distribution to consumers through designated dealers across the city.
Umar said flour mills in Peshawar are currently issuing an average of 7,767 bags to dealers each day, exceeding the officially set daily target of 7,630 bags.
He attributed the higher issuance to adjustments made for quantities that remained pending at some flour mills over the previous one or two days. These outstanding quantities are being added to the current daily quota, resulting in an overall distribution figure above the regular target.
The additional flour is also being distributed among dealers and transported to different parts of Peshawar to clear the pending supply, Umar said.
Flour distribution is continuing in several areas of the city, including Chamkani, Rampura, Dalazak Road, Kabootar Chowk, Shah Alam, Barhni Pul, Charsadda Road, Ring Road, Badaber, Pashtakhara, Bara Mani, Warsak Road, Faqirabad, Board Bazaar, Town, Saddar, GT Road and Achini, as well as adjoining areas.
Officials said the wheat release and regulated flour distribution are aimed at maintaining adequate supplies and keeping flour prices under control amid concerns over availability in the provincial capital.
