RAWALPINDI: Noreen Niazi, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, met her brother at Adiala Jail on Tuesday, according to sources.
The meeting took place in the conference room at around 5:10pm and lasted approximately 14 minutes. Noreen Niazi later confirmed to reporters that she had met Imran Khan.
Sources said Niazi became emotional upon seeing her brother after a considerable period of time.
Noreen Niazi left the prison premises after the meeting. When a journalist asked whether she had met Imran Khan, she responded in the affirmative.
The meeting came on the same day the Supreme Court ordered authorities to shift Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital for medical treatment. The court directed jail officials to facilitate the transfer and allowed his personal doctors, Dr Faisal Sultan and Dr Uzma Khan, to accompany him.
The three-member bench, headed by Justice Shahid Waheed and comprising Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim, also ordered that Khan be allowed to meet his family once a week while he remains hospitalised.
The Supreme Court adjourned further proceedings until September 16. The federal government has said it will implement the court’s order regarding Khan’s health and hospital transfer.
