PESHAWAR: Four judges of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) have taken oath as permanent judges, in an oath-taking ceremony held in Court Room No. 1 of the Peshawar High Court (PHC). Chief Justice Peshawar High Court, Justice S.M. Atique Shah administered the oath to the judges, on Monday.
Senior Judge Justice Ijaz Anwar, other PHC judges, judicial officers, Advocate General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shah Faisal Utmanzai, Additional Attorney General Sanaullah, and senior lawyers attended the ceremony.
Those who took oath include Justice Farah Jamshed, Justice Sabitullah, Justice Inam Khan, and Justice Aurangzeb Khan. All four have now become permanent judges of the Peshawar High Court (PHC).
The ceremony was also attended by PHC Bar President Aminur Rehman Yousafzai, members of the KP Bar Council and lawyers. The notification of confirmation of the four judges was read out.
Following approval from the Judicial Commission, they took oath. With this, the total number of permanent judges in the Peshawar High Court has reached 21.
It is pertinent to mention that due to delay in signing by the President, the confirmation orders of these judges were issued late. As a result, all four Additional Judges became inactive and their roster was also cancelled from 4th August.
PHC Bar President Aminur Rehman Yousafzai Advocate had appealed to the President in this regard, stating that the Peshawar High Court is already facing a shortage of judges and any further delay in their confirmation would lead to a further backlog of cases.
