ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is preparing to recognise its growing community of social media influencers and content creators with the country’s first-ever Pakistan Influencer Awards (PIA) in November.
The awards ceremony is scheduled for November 7 and will recognise creators in more than 30 categories, ranging from entertainment and lifestyle to fashion, tourism, gaming and music. Popular vloggers Amtal Bawija and Fahad Tariq, known for their vlog Patan Geer, will host the event. Bawija, who has been working in content creation for around eight years, said she was proud to be part of the country’s first influencer awards.
The awards are aimed at giving Pakistan’s digital creators a formal platform to gain recognition for their work while encouraging healthy competition within the rapidly growing content industry. Chief curator Talha Aslam said the initiative was intended to help Pakistan’s content-creation sector grow according to international standards and give talented creators more opportunities to stand out.
Among the major awards will be Creator of the Year and Emerging Creator titles for YouTube, Instagram and TikTok. Creators in areas such as fashion, tourism, beauty, lifestyle, fitness, gaming, music, parenting and entertainment will also compete for recognition.
The organisers have planned a multi-step selection process. An algorithm will first identify 20 candidates in each category, with the results then checked through market research. A jury of established content creators will narrow the list to 10 candidates. Marketing and advertising professionals will then select the final five nominees.
The final winners will be chosen through public online voting, which is expected to start in October. As social media and content creation continue to become popular career choices among young Pakistanis, the organisers hope the awards will help discover new talent and encourage creators to use digital platforms positively. The event could also give Pakistan’s content creators greater visibility beyond the country.
