ISLAMABAD: Thirty-three Pakistani students are set to travel to the United Kingdom to pursue higher education under the Chevening and Commonwealth Scholarship programmes.
A pre-departure ceremony was held at the British High Commission in Islamabad to honour the selected scholars, who will pursue studies across a range of fields, including education, healthcare, climate change, governance, business and diplomacy.
They will do their masters at different British universities in cities including London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Bristol and Sheffield.
Subjects on which the selected students will specialize include global health, human rights, media, development economics, robotics and entrepreneurship.
According to the statement issued by the British High Commission, applications for the next round of Chevening and Commonwealth Scholarships are also now open which gives the students another chance to get admission to post-graduate programmes in the United Kingdom.
British High Commissioner Jane Marriott expressed her views that the scholarships programs were one of the most practical ways of demonstrating the strong relationship between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.
She further stated that the programs give talented people new skills and international experience along with networking opportunities and they are supposed to use these for the benefit of Pakistan after their studies.
According to the British High Commission, Pakistan has a strong alumni network comprising around 2,000 Chevening scholars and more than 1,500 Commonwealth scholars.
The latest cohort is expected to further strengthen educational and professional links between Pakistan and the UK.
