ISLAMABAD: The President of Pakistan has approved a major increase in the salaries and allowances of judges of the higher judiciary.

Under the approved revisions, the salaries and perks of Supreme Court judges have been made equal to those of judges of the Federal Constitutional Court. The monthly basic salary of the Chief Justice of Pakistan has been fixed at Rs. 1.55 million.

The basic salary of other Supreme Court judges has been increased from Rs. 1.1 million to Rs. 1.5 million per month. The judicial allowance has been raised from Rs. 1,161,163 to Rs. 1.5 million, marking an increase of approximately Rs. 339,000 per month.

A monthly medical allowance of Rs. 150,000 has also been set.  In the pension-related clause, the age limit of 70 years has been increased to 75 years, while the limit of 85 years has been raised to 90 years. The salaries of High Court judges have also been increased.

The monthly basic salary of High Court Chief Justices has been fixed at Rs. 1.254 million.  The salary of other High Court judges has been increased from Rs. 1.095 million to Rs. 1.205 million per month.
