ISLAMABAD: In the solitary confinement case of PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi, Barrister Salman Safdar submitted written arguments to the Islamabad High Court on Monday.
Barrister Safdar rejected the Superintendent of Adiala Jail’s report as factually incorrect and misleading. He requested the court to appoint a judicial assistant, local commission, or amicus curiae to review the facts. He stated that the commission should be allowed to meet the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi, and the court should seek a review report from it.
The lawyer further urged the court to summon both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi and record their statements regarding solitary confinement. According to the written arguments, the court could also record their statements via video link.
In the 19-page submission, it was requested that a board be constituted comprising experts, a state representative, and a representative of the petitioners to visit Central Jail Adiala. It was also requested that the PTI founder be provided the same video link facility that the Chief Minister of Punjab provides to prisoners.
The petition further sought that books and TV be provided to both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi. Barrister Safdar stated that as per jail rules, the legal team should be allowed uninterrupted access for meetings. He noted that the legal team is currently representing the PTI founder in over 300 cases.
He also requested that weekly regular meetings with family members and friends be ensured in line with jail rules. Additionally, he sought the provision of medical reports and the complete record of the PTI founder, and asked that the medical record also be provided to the court. Details of all cases against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were also included in the written arguments. The arguments stated that the Superintendent of Adiala Jail had ignored court orders and submitted an incomplete report.
It was argued that the 1.5-page report did not cover all the serious concerns and issues. It was further stated that it cannot be said that both prisoners have unrestricted movement, as both are not allowed to leave their specific enclosure. Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro had sought the written arguments.
