KABUL: Tehreek-Taliban Pakistan’s notorious commander Noor Wali Mehsud has allegedly been killed in a strike on an armored vehicle in eastern Kabul late Thursday night.
According to early reports, the explosions occurred near Shahid Abdul Haq intersection in the east of Kabul city, an area that houses several key government offices and residential zones. The exact cause of the blasts remains unclear, though initial reports suggest the possibility of an airstrike.
Witnesses reported hearing at least two powerful blasts, followed by the sound of a drone flying overhead. Citing local sources, Afghan media reported that the nature of the incident is apparently a drone strike, but the claim could not be verified, and investigations are currently underway. There are reports that Tehreek Taliban Pakistan has confirmed the killing of Noor Wali in audio messages, and besides Noor Wali, two other top commanders were also killed in the attack.
Spokesperson for the Afghan government, Zabihullah Mujahid, confirmed that loud explosions were heard in eastern parts of Kabul late Thursday night; however, the exact nature of these explosions is under investigation. The attacks sparked panic among residents.
