PESHAWAR: Another 110 Pakistani students stranded in Afghanistan due to prolonged Pakistan-Afghanistan border tensions have returned home through the Torkham border crossing, while 592 Pakistani cargo vehicles were also allowed to re-enter Pakistan.
According to border security sources, the repatriation follows the return of 70 Pakistani students about a month ago as part of ongoing efforts to facilitate the phased return of stranded citizens and commercial vehicles.
The sources said the return of the students and cargo trucks was made possible through the efforts of prominent industrialist and Awami National Party (ANP) Khyber district president Haji Sherin Khan Afridi, with the cooperation of Pakistani and Afghan diplomatic missions as well as border security authorities from both countries.
Hundreds of Pakistani students and cargo vehicles had remained stranded in Afghanistan since October 12, 2025, following heightened tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, according to the sources.
Speaking on the occasion, Haji Sherin Khan Afridi said the students’ return was made possible through close coordination between the Pakistani diplomatic mission and border officials.
He also welcomed the returning students at the Torkham border and reaffirmed his role in facilitating the repatriation of both students and cargo vehicles.
The returning students expressed gratitude to the Pakistani authorities, diplomatic staff and Haji Sherin Khan Afridi for their efforts in ensuring their safe return to the country.
