The Afghanistan Cricket Board has made a significant change in the leadership of the national team and has appointed middle-order batsman Rahmat Shah as the new captain of the Test and ODI teams, while wicketkeeper-batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz has been given the responsibility of vice-captain.
According to a statement issued by the Afghanistan Cricket Board, Rahmat Shah has been given this responsibility after Hashmatullah Shahidi stepped down from the captaincy. Hashmatullah Shahidi led the Afghanistan ODI team in 55 matches, and the team achieved many important successes during this period.
According to the board, Rahmat Shah had been serving as Hashmatullah Shahidi’s vice-captain since 2021, due to which he has extensive experience in team leadership and management. The Afghanistan Cricket Board said that Rahmat Shah’s first responsibility as captain will be the upcoming series against Ireland, where he will be seen officially leading the Test and ODI team for the first time.
Rahmat Shah made his debut in international cricket in 2013 and is considered one of Afghanistan’s most experienced players. So far, he has played 128 ODIs and 12 Test matches representing Afghanistan, while playing an important role in bringing the team to success with his responsible batting on several important occasions.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board has expressed hope that Rahmat Shah, with his leadership skills and extensive experience, will lead the team to further successes and play an important role in further strengthening Afghanistan’s performance in international cricket.
