Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Monday announced 5,000 laptops and 2,000 scholarships for students in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), promising to expand educational opportunities in the region if the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) comes to power.
Speaking at an election rally in Muzaffarabad, Maryam Nawaz said the initiative is aimed at supporting students by improving access to higher education and digital learning resources.
Additionally, she announced that the Punjab government’s welfare programmes, including the electric bike scheme and interest-free loan programme, would also be extended to AJK. She further pledged to introduce the Himmat Card programme for persons with disabilities in the region.
Moreover, the Punjab chief minister said the government would provide 15 Clinic on Wheels units to improve healthcare access across AJK. She also promised that a PML-N government would create employment opportunities for young people.
Highlighting healthcare development, Maryam Nawaz said the under-construction 1,000-bed Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital in Lahore would also serve patients from Azad Jammu and Kashmir. She added that she would ask Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to expand the Apni Chahat Apna Ghar housing scheme to the region.
