ISLAMABAD: Facebook and Instagram social networks appeared to suffer some outages on Sunday, with users reporting issues with the app and website.
According to Downdetector, there were 4,808 reports filed by Facebook users in the United States as of 0746 GMT, with 63% of users facing issues accessing the website. Another 2,829 reports were filed by Instagram users in the US who faced issues with the app as of 0818 GMT on Sunday. Reports of Facebook and Instagram disruptions spiked around 1pm Pakistan time, reflecting a sharp increase in user complaints, according to the Downdetector.
Instagram users also reported difficulties, with many saying the application was not functioning properly. Reports included problems loading content and accessing the platform. The cause of the outage remains unclear, and Meta, the company that operates Facebook and Instagram, had not issued an official statement regarding the disruption at the time of publication.
The incident comes after similar service interruptions affecting major online platforms in recent months, often drawing attention to the growing reliance on social media networks for communication, business, and information sharing. Last month, Facebook and Instagram users across multiple regions reported widespread service disruptions, with thousands experiencing difficulties accessing Meta’s social media platforms.
Reports of problems began rising sharply during the morning hours, affecting Facebook, Instagram and Facebook Messenger. Users indicated they were unable to log in, load content or access messages normally. The disruption quickly generated significant discussion online as people turned to outage-tracking services to confirm the issues.
