MASTUNG: At least seven terrorists were killed while three security personnel embraced martyrdom during a sanitisation operation in the Khad Kucha area of Mastung on Wednesday, according to security sources.
The operation was underway when security forces encountered terrorists belonging to the group referred to as FAH, triggering an intense exchange of fire. During the gun battle, security forces successfully neutralised seven terrorists. However, three soldiers were martyred, while two others sustained injuries during the operation.
Sources said the terrorists used both small and heavy weapons against the advancing troops, resulting in a fierce firefight that continued in the area. To support ground forces, a Bell combat helicopter was deployed from Khuzdar for engagement and strafing operations, while a Mi-17 helicopter remained on standby to provide additional air support from Manguchar if required.
Meanwhile, reinforcements from Khad Kucha and Aziz Post, located north of the main operation site, were dispatched to strengthen the ongoing operation. The sanitisation operation remains in progress as security forces continue to clear the area and pursue any remaining militants. Further details are expected as the operation unfolds.
Meanwhile a massive explosion was reported during a security forces operation near a suspected explosives storage site in Bannu, officials said on Wednesday.
According to security sources, the operation was launched as part of an ongoing effort to clear the area of militants and dismantle their infrastructure. During the operation, security personnel advanced toward a suspected explosives storage location when a powerful blast occurred, sending a large plume of smoke into the air and shaking nearby areas.
The explosion was heard from several kilometres away, causing panic among local residents. Security forces immediately cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to assess the situation and ensure there were no further threats.
Officials have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the explosion or whether it was triggered accidentally, detonated by militants, or caused by explosives stored at the site. Authorities are also yet to release any official information regarding casualties or damage resulting from the blast.
Additional security personnel and bomb disposal teams have been deployed to the area, while the operation remains underway. The site is being thoroughly searched for any remaining explosive materials or militant hideouts. Authorities have urged the public to avoid the area until the operation is completed and an official assessment is carried out. Further details are expected as the security operation continues and investigators determine the circumstances surrounding the explosion.
