DIAMER: Intermittent monsoon rains continue to affect several parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, with flash floods causing widespread destruction in Diamer’s Darel and Niat valleys.

Heavy rainfall triggered flooding in the two valleys, resulting in significant damage to infrastructure, agriculture and private property.

In Niat Valley, flash floods damaged orchards and standing pea and maize crops, while several houses sustained partial damage.

The flooding also destroyed water supply systems and road links, disrupting transportation and leaving local residents facing severe difficulties.

Meanwhile, torrential rains in the remote Darel Valley unleashed powerful flash floods that caused extensive damage across several villages.

Standing crops, fruit orchards, irrigation channels, agricultural land, footbridges and traditional watermills were badly affected, while irrigation infrastructure was also severely damaged.

Flood-related damage to roads has disrupted access to several affected areas, making it difficult for residents to travel and hampering relief efforts.

Local residents have urged the district administration and relevant authorities to launch immediate relief operations, conduct a comprehensive assessment of the losses and begin rehabilitation and restoration work without delay.
