CALIFORNIA: Accusing OpenAI company of masterminding a campaign to steal the iPhone makers trade secrets, Apple sued the former in a court.

The lawsuit, filed in a federal court stated that OpenAI poached Apple employees and extract confidential information to build its own device. It added that at every level, from members of its Technical Staff to its Chief Hardware Officer, and in coordination with business partners, OpenAI has been stealing Apple’s trade secrets and confidential information, Apple said in the 41-page complaint.

Apple sued the artificial intelligence (AI) company, two of its employees, as well as its products, claiming it has engaged in a pattern of theft of Apple’s confidential product development and related work. The Apple in its 41-pages complaint added that two of its long-time workers who left the company to join OpenAI allegedly took part in this pattern by, in part, emailing themselves internal Apple information.

As per media reports, Drew Pusateri, a spokesman for OpenAI has said that they have no interest in other companies’ trade secrets. Likewise, Apple has said that the lawsuit is the result of significant evidence.

It represents a major shift in relations between Apple and OpenAI, creator of the popular AI chatbot ChatGPT. Tim Cook, Apple’s outgoing CEO, had added ChatGPT into Apple devices as the company was looking to offer more AI features. This year, Apple shifted more of its AI features to run on Google’s Gemini model and tools.
