The Election Commission of Pakistan(ECP) has proposed Federal government identify missing addresses in National Identity cards of various village councils and streets of different localities, which creates major problems in the electoral process and formulating the voters’ list.
The Election Commission of Pakistan has notified the federal government that in previous general elections, there were a number of mistakes in the addresses of National Identity cards, and there was no numbering of streets in rural areas of the country.
The Election Commission informed that problems arise in the establishment of voter lists and polling stations. The verification process becomes difficult due to the absence of street or house numbers on national identity cards.
Legislation should be made regarding the issuance of NOCs for new housing societies, and NOCs should not be given to those housing societies that do not have street numbers and house numbers. The Election Commission said that voters could not be identified correctly from incomplete addresses.
The ECP added that recruitment of staff during the revision of voter lists before the local bodies elections is a vital issue, and the staff involved in voter registration verification should be declared election commission representatives, which aims to explain the case of any mistake.
