SWAT: The provincial government, in a new achievement, has kept only Rs 1,000 in the budget for the Swat Zoo in the next fiscal year.
This zoo, established on 93 kanals of land in Kanju Township, has hundreds of animals, whose monthly food contract is Rs 1.7 million. The monthly food contract for hundreds of animals in the zoo in Kanju Township is Rs 1.7 million, while salaries of more than 100 employees of the zoo have been stopped, due to fear of disconnection of electricity for non-payment of arrears.
On the other hand, a recovery campaign is underway by PESCO in Swat, and, likely, they will also take away the zoo’s meter after July 31. The contractor providing food to the animals has informed the zoo administration that, due to a lack of budget, he will provide food to the animals only this month.
If the food and water supply to the animals were halted, there is a risk of hundreds of animals dying, which would bring disgrace to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa all over the world. Most of the time, the finance department does not even change the figures of the previous year and remains as it is in the new copy of the budget, leading to major mistakes in the process of allocation of funds.
