ISLAMABAD:  The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms across several parts of the country on July 7 and 8, as moist currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal combine with an approaching westerly wave.

According to the Met Office, scattered rain accompanied by windstorms and thunderstorms, with isolated heavy downpours, is expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, northern and northeastern Balochistan, and parts of Sindh.

In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, rain and thunderstorms are likely in Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur through till 08,09,2026.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, heavy rain is expected in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Kurram, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Hangu, Karak, Tank, and Lakki Marwat. Rain is also forecast in Waziristan, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan during July 7 and 8.

For Punjab and Islamabad, rain-wind/thunderstorms are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Faisalabad, Khushab, Sargodha, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Okara, and Kasur. Southern districts including Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Rahim Yar Khan, Rajanpur, D.G. Khan, Layyah, Bhakkar, Mianwali, and Noor Pur Thal are also expected to receive rain on July 7 and 8.

In Gilgit-Baltistan, rain and thunderstorms are likely in Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, and Shigar. Balochistan is expected to receive isolated rain and thunderstorms in Zhob, Sherani, Kohlu, Musakhel, Naseerabad, Harnai, Sibbi, Barkhan, Dera Bugti, and Khuzdar during the night of July 7 and on July 8.

In Sindh, hot and very humid weather will continue in most areas. However, isolated rain and thunderstorms are likely in Tharparkar, Sukkur, Shikarpur, Larkana, Dadu, Jacobabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, Qambar Shahdadkot, and Naushahro Feroze on July 7 and 8.  The PMD has warned that strong winds and lightning may damage weak structures, including solar panels, electricity poles, and billboards. Landslides are possible in vulnerable areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, while water levels may rise in local streams, nullahs, and hill torrents, particularly in Dera Ghazi Khan.

The department has also cautioned that heavy rainfall may trigger localized urban flooding in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Nowshera, Gujranwala, Lahore, and Faisalabad. The Met Office has advised tourists and travellers to avoid unnecessary journeys during the forecast period and urged farmers to plan agricultural activities in line with the weather conditions while ensuring the safety of their livestock.
