Argentina beat Cape Verde in the Round of 32 of the FIFA World Cup 2026 to qualify for the pre-quarterfinals after a thrilling encounter.
The round of 32 saw Argentina defeat participants Cape Verde for the first time in a World Cup 2-3 in extra time. The match in Miami was quite interesting and thrilling, with Cape Verde equalizing despite losing twice.
Earlier Argentina took the lead thanks to a goal from Messi, scored by star player Lionel Messi in the 29th minute. It was his seventh goal in this World Cup.
In the 59th minute, Duarte scored for Cape Verde to equalize the match. The contest was tied 1-1 until the regulated time. Argentina’s Lisandro Martinez scored in the 92nd minute to give Argentina the lead.
Cape Verde’s Sidney Cabriel left the Argentine goalkeeper helpless with a brilliant kick to tie the contest at 2-2.
In the second half of extra time, Cape Verde’s Danny Borges made a mistake and the ball went into his team’s net, giving Argentina a 2-3 lead. Thus, Argentina won the match 2-3 and advanced to the pre-quarterfinals.
In the pre-quarterfinals, Argentina will play Egypt on July 7. Two star players of the world of football will face each other, Messi of Argentina and Mohamed Salah of Egypt.
