ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi departed for Iran to attend the funeral of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei.
According to a statement issued by the Chairman Senate Secretariat, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani is visiting Tehran at the invitation of Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqir Qalibaf. He is accompanied by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi.
According to the statement, the Senate Chairman expressed his heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the Iranian Parliament, government and people and said that the death of Ayatollah Khamenei is a great loss for Iran, Pakistan and the entire Muslim Ummah.
According to chairman senate, the deceased was a leader with extraordinary insight, wisdom and leadership skills, while Pakistan has lost a sincere friend with his death.
He said that the Muslim world has lost a far-sighted leader in the form of Ayatollah Khamenei, whose leadership and services will always be remembered.
He prayed that Allah Almighty may elevate the ranks of the deceased and grant the Iranian people the ability to bear this shock with patience and fortitude.
The Chairman Senate further said that the brotherly relations between Pakistan and Iran are based on mutual respect, friendship and shared Islamic values, and this strong relationship between the two countries will continue with the same spirit in the future as well.
The delegation was also scheduled to hold meetings with the Iranian leadership to discuss matters of mutual interest, bilateral relations, and the prevailing regional situation.
