PESHAWAR: A fresh gas supply disruption following an attack on a major transmission pipeline in southern districts has reignited concerns over a CNG crisis in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with authorities considering partial closures and revised operating hours for CNG stations across the province.
According to official sources, the attack on the main gas transmission pipeline has affected gas supply to several areas, including Peshawar, prompting authorities to review contingency measures to ensure the equitable distribution of available gas.
Repair work on the damaged pipeline is currently under way. However, sources said the restoration of the transmission line could take several weeks, prolonging supply constraints.
In view of the situation, Sui gas authorities and other relevant departments are preparing a new operational schedule for CNG stations across the province. Under the proposed plan, stations may be allowed to operate only during designated hours.
Sources said the proposed restrictions are aimed at ensuring uninterrupted gas supply to domestic consumers and other essential sectors. Temporary curbs or revised operating hours for the CNG sector are among the options under consideration.
A final decision on the proposed measures will be taken after consultations among the relevant authorities. Until then, officials continue to monitor the situation while efforts to restore the damaged pipeline remain ongoing.
