ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has lodged a formal protest and official complaint with BBC Urdu over what it described as the publication of “fake news” regarding Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to a ministry’s statement, the report was based on unverified and unsubstantiated allegations and completely ignored the factual information from the official sources.

Furthermore, the ministry has also stated that this is not an isolated case and such incidents have been occurring repeatedly in the past.

The officials also stressed upon the fact that media houses should take care of the verification of the news stories especially when they are related to sensitive administrative and security-related issues.

AJK IG Rejects BBC Report on Road Closures

Meanwhile, Inspector General (IG) Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Police Liaquat Ali Malik has said that the news of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) regarding the closure of roads is completely contrary to the facts.

While holding a press conference in Muzaffarabad, he expressed regret that an international organization like the BBC published this news without verifying the ground realities.

The IG AJK said that at present all the roads in Azad Kashmir are open and there is no closure anywhere except a few roads in Rawalakot.

He clarified that we are currently going through an era of hybrid warfare, where new narratives are fabricated by distorting the reality, so the public should first verify any news instead of reacting immediately to it.

He revealed that miscreants are continuously spreading false propaganda about the overall situation in Azad Kashmir. The miscreants of the banned organization are involved in road blocking, who not only forcibly stop food-carrying vehicles but also loot them and torture the drivers.

IG Liaquat Ali Malik further said that due to these negative actions of the miscreants, ordinary citizens are facing severe difficulties.
