ISLAMABAD: In order to attend R-4 foreign ministers meeting in Cairo, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will leave for Cairo tomorrow (Sunday).

The forum brings together the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye to discuss key regional and international developments. According to the FO, the ministers will exchange views on issues related to peace, security and stability, while reviewing ways to strengthen cooperation among the four countries in areas of shared interest.

During his visit, Dar is also scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Egyptian FM Dr Abdelatty and call on Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. The discussions are expected to focus on expanding Pakistan-Egypt cooperation across multiple sectors and exchanging views on regional and global developments of mutual concern.

According to the Foreign Office, Pakistan attaches significant importance to its relations with Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, describing the R-4 framework as a reflection of the participating countries’ commitment to consultation, cooperation and coordinated action on regional issues.

The Cairo meeting comes three months after Dar hosted the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Egypt in Islamabad for a quadrilateral meeting focused on the Middle East situation and broader regional challenges.

The R-4 is an informal diplomatic coalition that consists of Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye. The Foreign Ministers of these four countries frequently meet to discuss regional security, mutual bilateral cooperation, and the broader geopolitical stability of the Middle East and South Asia.

The R-4 represents a strategic alliance where these key regional players coordinate their stances on critical international issues, counter-terrorism, and economic development.
