ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued an important public advisory warning citizens against the use of foreign SIM cards, declaring their use within Pakistan illegal and potentially dangerous.
According to the PTA, foreign SIM cards operating in the country can expose users to significant security, financial, and legal risks. The authority urged the public to avoid activating or using any unverified foreign network SIMs.
In a message shared on social media, the PTA cautioned that calls and messages made through foreign SIM cards could compromise sensitive personal and financial information, leaving users vulnerable to data breaches and cybercrime.
The authority further warned that the use of such SIMs may facilitate financial fraud, identity theft, and other cyber-related offenses, while also exposing users to possible legal action by law enforcement agencies.
Under its safe steps in the digital world awareness campaign, the PTA emphasized that communications through unauthorized foreign SIMs can become a source of cybercrime and financial theft.
The regulator advised citizens to safeguard their personal and financial data by using only approved and verified mobile network operators licensed to operate in Pakistan.
The PTA reiterated that compliance with telecom regulations is essential for ensuring digital security and protecting users from potential fraud and legal complications.
